Science Fair Web Site Seeks "Green" Projects

Evanston, IL (PRWEB) January 14, 2008 -- Young scientists from elementary school through college are invited to enter the 2008 International Virtual Science Fair Contest with a project that promotes environmentally friendly living.

The contest, sponsored by www.super-science-fair-projects.com, runs from January 15 through June 15, 2008. The winner of the elementary school division receives a Magnacraft 50mm. power telescope. The winners of the middle school and high school/college divisions receive MP3 players. Every entrant will receive a specially designed certificate acknowledging their participation.

"Concern about the environment has increased dramatically of late. But the subject has always been close to my heart, and I thought it was time to run a science fair that inspired kids to find and explore ways of living green."  Director Madeline Binder, teacher and counselor.

Everything but the entry form must be sent via email. For directions and contest details, go to www.super-science-fair-projects.com/science-fair-contest.html. Winners will be announced on June 30, 2008 and notified by email.

Students must submit an original project---nothing copied from a book or off the Internet---choosing one of these 3 categories:

? An experiment focused on the environment. Include a video demonstrating the 6 steps of the scientific method and an abstract of the experiment.

? A design for a "green" house or building, including a list of materials that can be used to make the structure totally eco-friendly.

? A new and original initiative in your school or community that promotes ecology awareness and environmentally friendly actions. Include a video in which participants tell how the effort influenced them to change their lives.

"Even simple actions can have a great impact," Ms. Binder says. She cites as an example a school that installed a worm bin where cafeteria food wastes are deposited. Once the material has broken down, it is spread as fertilizer in the school garden. Vegetables grown in the garden are offered in the school cafeteria.
