Presidential Candidates Undergo Green Screening: Frog King Website Rates Campaigns
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) July 10, 2007 -- At present, the 2008 presidential candidates have been most frequently queried on their past votes and future plans for the war in Iraq. However, the unprecedented length of this campaign will allow other issues to take center stage. A new environmental web portal, FrogKing.com, has been launched to push the candidates on green issues and keep the public informed as to which potential president would best lead the nation and the world in the battle against global warming.
Environmental concerns -- particularly global warming, greenhouse gas emissions, and America's dependency on unpredictable oil supplies -- are beginning to find their moment in the public consciousness, pushed to the fore by rising gas prices and a global surge in environmental activism, in part launched by previous presidential candidate Al Gore's movie, "An Inconvenient Truth" and supported by substantial plans from former Senator Edwards, Governor Richardson, and statements from other candidates.
At the crest of this wave of green concern, FrogKing.com has already assembled a report card on the declared and wavering candidates from both parties, assessing each politician's environmental word and deed as indicators for their Green leadership potential. Predictably, Democrats have charged into the lead, but Senator McCain has long been outspoken on the environment and introduced the unsuccessful but well regarded Climate Stewardship Act of 2003.
According to the site's Senior Editor, Daniel Kray, "The next president will act pivotally on a wide range of environmental concerns, regardless of his or her interest or will in the matter. International leaders are beginning to see it; the natural world can no longer be stripped and poisoned but otherwise ignored. A legitimate presidential contender in this country, in this era, would perceive our global environmental peril as a truly American opportunity to yet again lead the world in a just cause."
While the early debates have focused on the war in Iraq, Americans have grown significantly discouraged over the issue, with voters from all political alignments doubtful of any meaningful resolution and perhaps tiring of that particular debate. A recent Fox News poll simultaneously found that while nearly half the country doubts a meaningful resolution can be found to the Iraq War, respondents' greatest gripe was over high gas prices.
Those gas prices are part of the reason environmental concerns continue to appear in public and political discourse, destined to become a crucial issue in the campaigns partly thanks to international pressure, particularly from Europe, as witnessed by the recent G8 Summit. Likewise, domestic interest in the incipient green economy has risen, recently spurred by GE's surprising quarterly success, attributed by the company in substantial part to its green-minded Eco-magination division.
The renaissance of former presidential contender Al Gore further promises to push the campaign in a green direction. His supporters and detractors are making a great game out of arguing whether the environmental figurehead will make another run, although Gore himself insists he is done with political life. His campaigning is now pledged entirely to keeping greenhouse gas caps, renewable energy sources, and wilderness protections consistently among the talking points for the declared candidates. FrogKing.com has pledged itself to this same goal.
